New Car
« on: January 25, 2010, 08:27:56 pm »
A couple of months ago with some money burning a hole in my pocket I came across a car that I have always wanted...a Corolla WRC....great little car and economical too...although slow as a slow thing it handles very well.

the rather standard engine bay with the home made looking strut brace

this one has an interesting history though...apparently (i have no proof of this) it was a one off made by Toyota themselves for the great Carlos Sainz to drive about UK Toyota garage car parks when Toyota announced that it would be using the Corolla in the WRC as a kind of demonstration vehicle. there is a one off strut brace that looks a bit home made and there are mounting points for a bolt in roll cage and harnesses.....also almost the entire interior was covered in carbon fibre film......I doubt any normal person would do this to a corolla as its everywhere...even the boot. also there are signs of stickers being on the car.....of course anyone could have done all this but would they have removed all of it??? who knows......BazzaGT4 remembers seeing it at a garage local to him.

Wether its true or not will remain to be seen, but its a nice story.

I have some nice plans for it......wide arch kit, lamp pod...sticker kit and an MR2 turbo conversion.....should be fun.

Suspension is in the process of being replaced...waiting for a big brake kit and new wheels...and the sticker kit is waiting for the weather to warm up :)

Cant wait to get all this done, but it will be a long process as I`m moving house as soon as possible...and the GT4 is waitng for a full rebuild from the ground up...dont know which one to do first :-\

Naaa...just working hard and saving bonuses etc :) The Corolla wasnt expensive and its saving me a fortune in petrol as you can fill it with any old supermarket rubbish...dosnt need anything posh like the Celica.

cheers Jeff.....unfortunately I`ll be moving south...although not too far, somewhere between York and Leeds (more the York side hopefully) some nice houses....although my girlfriend is getting a bit sick as when we visit estate agents and they say "what do you want in a house" all I ever say is "a double garage" nothing else really bothers me...as long as the house is in a nice area and isnt falling down. need parking for at least 3 cars and a workshop...or space to build one as the plans for both the Corolla and Celica are extensive....I also need to learn to weld and spray paint....I came to the conclusion that although spraying is very hard to do, I would rather learn myself and bugger it up than pay someone thousands of pounds to bugger it up for me.....I just dont trust garages to do a job that I would be satisfied with as they never do.

Hopefully see you at York Raceway or another meet in the not-too-distant future

mint looking car there. MR2 turbo swap should be awesome, although personally I would be tempted to do a 4agze conversion :)

Yer thats an option, but I spent an hour chewing the ear of Adrian from Fennies about their 3sgte conversion they did.....when he said that you`d need at least 400BHP in a GT4 to keep up (with a mildly tuned 300BHP in the corolla) then my mind was made up.....300BHP in a FWD car is going to be alot less stressed than a GT4 3sgte...also I have more spare 3sgte spare parts than you could shake a stick at, fuel pumps, FPRs, spare charge coolers...a nice TTE wasted spark ignition system sat doing nothing.....the list goes on so it makes sense to utilise the 3sgte...plus I have 2 spare heads, a spare short block a selection of downpipes blah blah blah.

Even a mint set of Recaros to go in...but I might save those for the faff.

Anyone wanting to run a similar wasted spark set up to the TTE cars its pretty cheap to do if you have an after market ECU already.....you`ll need a twin ignitors and the coil packs...twin ignitors can be found anywhere on the net pretty much...£30+ and the coil packs you can pick up for about £50 from the mk3 supra owners club (for all 3 of them)...you`ll need 2 obviously. the expensive bit comes when you`ll need ignition leads as you`ll need custom ones......one end to suit the supra coil packs and the other to suit the Celica spark plugs......Magnecore ones cost £180+ but I`m sure you can get them cheaper.

Lol, it is a bit slow atm seeing as it needs mapping, but you know I've already got a real car. Get yourself to York and see how slow it really is, you can admire the sticker I put on the back bumper :D :D :D

Lol, yeah, like a hole in the head. It's a cunning play on words based on the car's origin and my occupation. I'll let you work it out ;)
