Daily Drivers
« on: November 28, 2009, 02:18:51 pm »
I'm just wondering how many fours on here are used as a daily driver? For a year now mine has been tucked-up in the garage for most of the time, except for a couple of summer months and 2 track visits.
I like the fact that it's protected from the ravages of winter and salty roads, but I miss having fun driving it every day.

I don't think I could afford to run the four every day at today's petrol prices anyhoo... i've saved £1500 in a year running a diesel focus.

I'm looking forward to getting on track some more next year, and maybe a couple of road trips... Once the wife's finished maternity leave!

Mine was my daily driver for 4 years and now is kept for shows/meets and the occassional fair weather blast.
I run a Yaris as my commuter car  :-X
Daft thing is, apart from fuel I still constantly spend money on the faff  ;D  I do really miss driving it though.

I've currently got a mk3 Golf Gti as a daily driver to keep the four away from the winter roads but I'm not sure how much I'm saving though lol the golf is still fun to drive its really slow though. so the odd time I take the Four out it feels like a new car.

What a bunch of girlies!

Get some waxoyl on it, look after it, protect it, then rag it senseless.  ;D

It is, after all, four wheel drive and therefore a damn sight safer to be in on cold or even icy roads in than any girly hatchback!

You bought it, drive the damn thing!

AWD is just full time 4wd, but I like the pedantry :)

iirc the 4wd implies that there is no centre diff, and the front wheels are either engaged or disengaged. awd is permanent and has a centre diff. I think thats about it

Depends who's marketing you believe. Plenty of 4wd vehicles have centre diffs that can run in open or locked, or disengaged entirely as 2wd only, so fill both definitions. The only real definition of AWD would be that all wheels drive, otherwise youre looking at the true toyota name (full-time 4wd).

Mine was a daily drive. Running costs got too much. Now it's treated to a lovely warm garage most days.

I do wish i'd been in the four this icy morning on the quiet unsalted B-roads to work... would've been a bit more fun than managing the understeer of a front-heavy diesel focus.

Still, the fella in the mr2 I saw wasn't grinning.

:D I bet he wasn't. My D takes FOREVER to warm up despite having additional electric water heaters to bring it up to temp faster (4 glow plugs mounted in a water block?!). The celica used to be warm within 2 mins of firing her up. I miss her!
