Finally, some photos of my four for all to see!
« on: December 13, 2008, 02:54:10 am »
Today, I decided to take some photos for you all to see. The car is a 1990 ST185 JDM and non-widebody. Mods include relief valve boost control, steel head gasket, straight intake and pod filter, aftermarket intercooler, boost gauge, bov, nolathane sway bar bushes (made huge improvement!), 3" stainless down pipe, Top Gun spiral wound ignition leads, platinum plugs, braided brake hoses and single pot front calipers, and battery in boot. I think thats it, if I remember anything else I'll add it to the list. Anyway, some photos.

Hood scoop mod to block gap behind intercooler (sealing strip is an old vee belt with a groove cut down the middle and press fitted)

Engine bay, about halfway through a head gasket job. Fun times!

So tell me what you guys think :)

I like the colour a lot, imo suits the shape very well.

You've had some fun under the bonnet haven't you lol...that's not a 'normal' 185 tmic is it? Also, what's your take on the cambelt cover...best removed to help keep it cool or best kept on to stop crap getting in and doing damage? Why the handmade? heatshield...with the dp will the stock one not fit or do you prefer the look of the one you have?

Just my taste but I aint too keen on the rims or the back box...but in total I like your car a lot. It's nice to see something with an owners taste stamped to it 8)

Like the dog too...reminds me of a childhood pet called Gina, a redsetter that looked pretty much the same, maybe longer hair. A gentler more loving dog I will never find.

Well...you did ask for comments ;D

Do you not find that having the afm on its side affects the running of the car? When I had my 165 I had a straight intake and tried having the afm rotated from stock...the car ran like a bag o bolts lol. Obviously yours doesn't, otherwise you would have changed it by now...perhaps the flap/spring in my old slag was a bit loose ;)

Your crate looks nicer and nicer the more I look 8)

lol to be honest i havent tried the afm in different orientations, as the car runs fine. but since you mentioned i will experiment. As for the cambelt cover, when I changed the head gasket, the cambelt cover broke! it had gone all brittle with heat and age and was stuffed. Thats my reasoning for leaving it off!  ;D ;D

Back box was on it when I bought it, same with the rims. I want to replace them with 16" or 17" rims though. I like the colour also. It looks  killer at night, being a shiny dark colour but not black.

Thanks for the positive comments you guys! Glad you like it :)

and as for the home made heatsheild, when I got the car it didnt have one! Hence I made that one. Took me about 15 mins to make it out of some sheet ally i had and i just used a pair of standard scissors to cut it out  ;D
Works really well too! I was quite surprised at its performance

Definitely like the colour mate. Try shifting that AFM position to see if it helps with the issues we've been discussion via msn.

And CHRIST how little rust!?!?! grrrrr

I think i'll leave the afm as is, i re-positined it so it was lying flat on its side like normal, only upside down. made the car run real rich, mis, and put out some black smoke so i put it back the way it was

That's a nice car mate, I would stick to 15" rims if I were you. I swapped for 16"s on my last 185 and I thought it handled better on the 15"s, could just be me though, or maybe the car (was a bit of a dog).

My new one's on 15"s, they look a bit crap but they're lightweight and the car handle's nicely so I'm keeping them on.

i had 16" on my CS and ATA when i first got them, but changed both to 17" and i noticed the handling got better, this maybe down to the fact previous owners used cheap useless rubber though, I know 18" on the 185 really kills the handling as i've heard so many people compain about it.
