who else has fitted an RV (relief valve)

Yup, you have it in the wrong way, at a guess. There should be a wee hole in one end (other than the hose connections!) - this goes to the wastegate tube.

ok got it sorted now got her running just under 10psi and all seems fine

am i right in saying the vsv should still be limiting my boost in 2nd?
cos boost gauge is reading 10 in 2nd still?

Questions are always welcome mate, none are silly, we might chuckle at them but only knowing we have done them ourselves

How have you disabled the VSV - block the hoses or snip the wire? Either way it will lock you in low boost mode (without a RV). Once you have done the disabling it will not affect anything else. Without the RV in it will limit you to ~7psi IIRC. Once you throw the RV in you should have no problems setting it at any level up to 12psi (14 but it will run out of puff top end) and it will reach that in any gear except maybe first where often it is reported that there isnt enough load on the engine to hit full pressure before redline. I have never noticed that though, I can hit 14psi by 3.5Krpm in first - its quite a ride

thats the thing i havnt done anything to the vsv so i was expecting that even with RV fitted it should be limiting the car?
but it seems not to be.
 (i havnt tried hittin full boost in 1st yet 2nd pulls hard enough! lol)

must admit in the few mods i have done so far the st165 has supassed my much modded mk2 golf
and havnt even tried it with IC pump on constant yet

You need to deactivate the VSV - if you set the boost in 3/4/5th using the RV you'll get less boost in 1 or 2. If you set it in 1 or 2 you'll get overboost in the rest. The pipe that goes from the actuator around the transmission side of the block (the other one you didnt add the RV to!) - block it, either snip and stick a bolt in it or find a cap for the actuator port and put a bolt in the bit you pulled off. Make sure the bolt fits nice and tight - if the one on the actuator side falls off you'll see a whacking great shot of boost and probably will damaged your engine. If you leave the block-side open you'll bleed air into/out of the engine and it'll get upset.

You're keeping a 165 alive, you need all the help you can get  I'm sure bouncing around here you'll pick up all the info you need to keep any four alive and it'll make owning one a lot less stressful!
