What I did on Friday evening.......
« on: May 31, 2008, 11:16:27 pm »
Well, since the last time I drove my 4 was the 7th of January, I thought it was probably time to put it back together since I've got a replacement downpipe (cheers Craig).

Fairly straight-forward, greasing me nuts and bolts as I went along, re-assembly. Stuck the d/p onto the tubby and attached the bolts onto the flexi. Dropped the alternator in, slid the chargecooler back on and checked all the hoses were on. Once I'd checked everything was tightened up I stuck the battery in.

Now remember that this car hasn't been started for nearly 5 months, and I was pretty sure I'd have forgotten something somewhere. I was expecting the battery to be pretty flat and this proved correct, so I coaxed Cee into getting the jump leads on to her Civic. So after knocking the main lead off the dizzy, a couple of turns to get oil through the system, and a bit of fuel through, lol.

Connected the lead and gave it a turn, a couple of pumps on the loud pedal and 'woohoo, it lives'.

Now I just need to get it tested and taxed before it goes away for a bit of surgery. You never know, I might get to play in it by August.

Cheers

PS I might have to post up some pics of shiny bits ;)

Cee's clutch is doing Cee's car type things.. i.e. absolutely no gears selectable at all.. and trying to force it into gear stalls it instantly.... waiting for the RAC man to arrive fixes the problem and then racing a porsche 10 mins later brings it.. embarrassingly back (though for the record I beat him :) ).. sitting it outside the house whilst we make her bed (garage) ready fixes it... suspect that it's heat related.. Smithy had suggested checking height adjustment and bleeding the clutch.. but it's raining :(

But .. onto happier and shinier things...

These cars of ours ain't half spoilt :)

nice stuff Chris what hks cams are they/pistons and cam pulleys.

On the clutch side it's most likely to be height adjustment. i had similar problem with my new clutch. if you don't get it sorted i could pop over after work tomorrow.

Nice shaft Chris (argh, I've lowered the tone again) :D.

Going back to the earlier part of the post, just got mine started for the first time since xmas times (cheers Daz  ;). She fired straight up.

Local meet soon I hope.

Peter, you get first prize in the anorak comp ;D Yup Fidanza, in fairness tho the other colours were red or clear :o

The HKS cams are 264s, maybe just a bit more oomph 8).

JE pistons are 86.25mm, I figured that if I managed to 'break' anything then I still might be able to re-re-bore it, lol.

As for cleaning the car Doc, I can just leave it outside for a couple of hours ;D ;D Though I suspect I may have to get polishing, hehe.

Daz, if you get the time just give me a shout and I'll put the kettle on ;)

Cheers
