Carbon Sunroof
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:37:49 pm »
Dya think a carbon fibre sunroof would look out of place on a white car? I already have black bonnet vents (side ones, considered making the centre scoop plastic black too but got told it would look like a panda by the OC) so now im thinking a carbon roof might not look ideal.

You felt the weight of those sunroofs? Theres a good 4 or 5Kg in one of them! (I secretly just wanted to try vac-bagging with some spare carbon I have).

Not sure when you last took one off but the one i have in my garage (unbolted from the mechanism and swapped due to rust) weighs somewhere around the 4kilo mark, lid alone. Either way, it wasnt meant as a weight saver lol.

Well if I pull off a decent attempt I might knock a few up for cost price, not trading or any such thing. Ive done a few composite kiteboards but never made a mould of a body panel before, so it could get messy :)

Well, my scales came up with "Err" so i supported one end on the fruit bowl at the height of the scales to halve the weight and it still came up "Err" and I've no way of 1/3ing the weight accurately so I just lifted the middle a litthe (maybe 1/2 a kilo of force) and the scales popped back into life at 2.5Kg so I'd take a guess at 5+Kg for the skin alone.
