Insurance technical question
« on: November 11, 2009, 07:50:08 pm »
Hi,

If you have a comprehensive insurance policy which commonly allows you to drive other cars you dont own with 3rd party protection does that car need to have any insurance cover taken out by the cars owner?
For example my mate buys a car and hasnt yet insured the car himself. Can I drive the car legally?

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon, agree with Bronzie on this one. The only time I have driven in similar circumstances was to drive a car to the scrap yard, after having informed the local police that the journey would take place.

Cheers

Indeed the car must be insured by its owner for your third party cover to count. The vehicle has to be insured to be on the road at all, imagine if you parked up and the handbrake released when you were gone, who's insurance covers it etc?

Thanks, you have confirmed what I thought. I'm sure if I drove past an ANPR vehicle a police car would soon be pulling me over.
