ST185 side bonnet air vents
« on: December 16, 2008, 08:07:37 pm »
Just bought a new 185 and the side air vents on the bonnet are facing opposite directions (see my other thread for pics), I thought this was a mistake somewhere but I've since seen pics of other cars with the same setup.

So after some interwebby scouring I've seen loads of different combo's (well three  ) my last four had both facing the windscreen, I've seen ones with both facing the bonnet and the opposite direction one like on mine.

Does anyone know what the original setup was? Or what the best is to let air in/out the engine bay?

I might be wrong (50 50 call ;D) but I think they should both face the windscreen so that the hot air is sucked out of the engine bay and up over the windscreen, rather than cold air being pushed into the bay.

I think some owners reversed the ns one in a belief it helps with induction kits ???

I am feeling VERY rough though...man flu (stonking headache, raw throat and sore back) without a doubt so I could be way off

as said, as standard both vents face the windscreen to draw out air from the engine bay.

back in the day quite a few peeps (including myself) rotated the n/s vent to create a scoop to try and force a little outside cool air onto an open air filter (k&n, hks, apexi induction kits etc etc)

now i've a cold air box both my vents now face the original direction.

thanks for clearing that one up folks, that one's been reversed to create a scoop for the mushroom on mine then (no airbox). Quite a good idea anyway is it not? creating a bit of a convection current in the engine bay.
