Long drive planned - thoughts?
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:42:32 pm »
I'm going to be driving to the Alps in 18 hours (taking 18 hours, not at 6pm tomorrow!) soon, leaving Glasgow on a Friday avo, catching the ferry at 2:30am on the sat and doing the remaining 600ish miles afterwards. ROAD TRIP! I'm taking the peugeot as I can get 65+mpg at 65mph without trying so the whole thing comes in at half the price of flying (with the missus) even with the ferry cost.

Anyone know how long I should leave between Wigan and Dover to get there for ~2am? Major traffic problems currently on the route?

According to my Autoroute Wigan - Dover is 285 miles and 4 hours 9 minutes.

Personally allowing for coffee stops and/or breakdowns (which I'm hopeing you'll have non of ;)) I would allow AT LEAST 5 and half hours.
Better to be sat waiting on the ferry for an hour or so than to miss it all together ;)

I would reccon at that time of the day/night  even roadworks wouldn't hold you up that much 8)

Seriously wanting another GT4 NOW god dam it!!!

Well I left to get to the south from Grimsby (other side of the country I know but the same distance north roughly) and made it down in just over 4 hours leaving at midnight but the traffic was perfect and did between doing about 80-90 all the time.

I would leave 5 hours at least just incase dude.

I will take the 4 one day, when my wages rise by at least 5K a year! I cant wait.

I am a little confused though, just rang peugeot asking about how to convert/tape-up the headlights for france driving and they told me its not legally necessary for short trips. I'm fairly sure thats rubbish.

You can buy the stick-on deflectors from Halfrauds ;) even has a diagram of how to stick them on, hehe, just don't forget to take them off when you get back. Have fun, lots of pics :D

Cheers
