just pondering really
ST165's seem so bloomin rare,
so why are they worth b*gger all?
i mean mk1 golfs are worth more than a mk2 etc etc
and while we are at it how much is a good condition 165 worth for say insurance value?
-
Weigh it, subtract a 1/4 for rust then contact these guys www.cash4scrap.co.uk (http://www.cash4scrap.co.uk) :D
Sorry ;D
-
hahaha i knew the first reply would be along those lines!
my 165 doesnt have any rust..................................honest! ;D
still u get my point
-
Yeah, they should definitely be worth a few quid due to rarity alone :)
-
they are under valued and under exposed. hence no one is willing to pay good money for them... they are too far under the radar. jeez most 185 and 205 owners can't even tell them apart from the now rare ST162.
mine has an agreed value of £10K. pretty much irreplaceable. if i tried selling, i'd never get close to the money spent. maybe one day a chav might steal and torch it....that way at least i could recoup some of the out lay
stoke, having seen your car, i'd say it is too far gone. don't spunk a fortune on it. never ever worth the time effort and expense.
-
yeah i dunno why that is maybe as your title says there is not a big enough cult out there looking for them, VW are the masters of this hence the huge gatherings and shows worldwide, where as trying to get a clean standard japanese car is few and far between, if its clean i'm sure there is modifications done to it, whereas the german following always prefered the standard form
-
cuz they r crap rust buckets ;D :D ;)
-
dont worry gary 165 money spent on the car is going to be like all others...keeping it on the road and in reasonable condition.
although the rust factor on mine according to local jap specialist is much better than a lot of others he has seen.
i guess at the end of the day it comes down to the fact that the 165 was never that popular on launch.
unlike the golf which was like a new era in motoring.
shame really cos compared to my golf the celica
handles better
is more comfy
goes faster
and turns more heads

shouldnt u be polishing ur car or something ;)
Lol, funny you should say that, just done it with with megs 80 and 83
I've heard it's best to use 38 and 40 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Isopon-P40-P38-Bridges-Rust-and-Holes-for-Automobiles_W0QQitemZ140137150670QQihZ004QQcategoryZ30923QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) 0n 165's ;D

Give it a few more years, as long as they're in GOOD condition.
Look how much Mk 1 or 2 escorts, crapis, talbot sunbeams etc. go for nowadays in good condition.
-
lol so the key word there is GOOD condition
ie no rust?
......bugger lol

Hi Mate,
I value mine at £8,000, but trying to get insurance to agree that was a PITA. we have settled on 5k.
To be fair, Gary has a point re these cars, if they are too far gone with rust or mech issues its just not worth spending big on them, which is a shame.
Re the values, I do believe they will go up, however at present they are struggling due to the fact that fast jap stuff is so cheap. (look at how even scoobies and faffs are loosing value).
The other fact is that they are largely misunderstood and even new where not rated or given the same press space as say cosworths etc. if they had had over 200bhp when new and the press had loved them, think the situation would be a bit different. TBH a lot of people dont see much difference between a 165 and a 162. Their loss.
Keep hold of her, maintain her the best you can, but sadly dont expect the car to climb in value anytime soon, but it will happen.
and to all those doubting faff owners, keep polishing coz so you look pretty when the 165s go past you. ;D ;D

its when cars get good recognition the prices go very high.about 5 years ago you could buy ae86 corrolas for pennies.now look at them 8k for a decent one.
