looking to design a new style bonnet for the 185.. so looking for insperation? HELP GUYS...
-
What an utterly mad, but cool, idea!
How about Ford GT inspired air-ducts?
-
;D
-
if done properly, this could actually be pretty cool :)
-
Will take a lot of doing to get it right and not look damn stupid. The CS bonnet is perfectly suited IMO and anything more extravagant will just look like the kids down at halfords carpark with an astra with the CS bonnet vent glued on. But I'd be willing to hold judgement til I saw it!
No room to have GT40 scoops.

if you saw all the gumph hes got under the bonnet and it wont shut youd understand
need something way more bulky that tubby and manifold he,s got on just take the pee :)
-
:D I've heard it's fairly well loaded, but still would need to be well styled not to look stupid, regardless of bonnet content. It's a 90s car, it needs 90s styling to match the rest of the body. All the bodykits out there prove that, they look bloody awful because they tend to try to make them much more modern looking!
-
spent most of last night looking at after market bonnets/vent.. My conclusion. :'(
-
My options...
1) Adopt an air to air bonnet and have a larger scoop fitted (mini cooper style not scooby ;D)
2) Keep the cs style but raise and enlarge the insert.. and perhaps get it done in carbon
3) Change the insert to either a st205 or a evo fq style vent..
4) A tad chavi but a nissan pulsar bonnet and remove its fins and replace with mesh..
Karl... think she's nearer 500 bhp now.! Can't wait for mapping... so much more free flowing its unreal. ;)
-
Take the opportunity to get rid of the dated pop up lights?
-
I'd go with option 2 if I were going to do any of them I think, it could look pretty nice if done well.
Rob - dated indeed, even the 205s twin headlight look is "dated" these days, but you wouldn't get rid of it as it's part of what makes the four the four IMO. Every single person that's commented on my car has said "oohhh god i love pop-up headlights". I dont get everyone who wants to change the style of the car, seems a bit nuts :D
-
i do like me pop ups... :D
Option 2 is probably the way i will be going... or if i can if somebody who makes full carbon bonnets.
-
Yea they should bring pop up lights back when I had the mr2 i loved them and everyone I know had a similar reaction to what coyote says.
What about a corvette ZR1 power bulge window in the bonnet? http://image.automobilemag.com/f/multimedia/photo_gallery/8108878/0712_11z_1024x768+2009_chevrolet_corvette_ZR1+front_three_quarter_view.jpg (http://image.automobilemag.com/f/multimedia/photo_gallery/8108878/0712_11z_1024x768+2009_chevrolet_corvette_ZR1+front_three_quarter_view.jpg)
-
Now thats cool. 8) 8) Although i'd probably melt it. :'(
-
Maybe you could just modify your bonnet bulge? Oo-er.
-
What's causing the problem and where/to what extent does it need more room?
-

bonnet shuts ok without the vent fitted.. but with it just catches the new manifold. Been quoted from spa for a new fully carbon custom made bonnet..£2500 and i get to keep the mould. ;) Taking the car round next week.
-
Jesus, you won the lottery?!
Think I@d just mod the existing vent with a sander :D

i think i would be tempted to cut out the vent hole a bit bigger to the permimeter, and then just simple black mesh over it.

Superb... It's a Puur Quattro... geddit, geddit!?!
... I'll get me coat.
-
just need the fluffy dice now..

This is the bonnet that my friend made for his subbie. I am thinking of doing something similar, but more rounded to suit the bio design of the celica st185.

-
That looks pretty cool, although Im not too sure how it would suite the ol' 185. Maybe if it were a bit more round/curvy, as you say?
I had an idea of something similar, but more along the lines of basically taking a scoop similar in style to the standard ATA 185, and installing it backwards over the hole, to allow the escape of the hot air. Essentially just a reverse scoop, facing the driver lol, not a big cowling scoop often seen on big V8's lol.
But it would have to be done very carefully I think, as it could easily turn out horrible, but i think it could have potential to look good and be totally different as well as functional.
-
Well I consider function and form imperative to anything I do.
Think of it as an enchancement/hybrid between the CS bonnet and Jonnos creation. Smooth and rounded, yet more agressive but still conform to the original design lines of the vehicle.
-
Theres a reversed scoop for the galanza's which could be along the lines you talking flyingtele
Reversed:

yeah thats pretty much indeed what I was talking about lol. Only it would take a bit of careful work to make it work on the 185, but I think it could work out well
