Title: I wish those simple jobs were really that simple.
Post by: madgaz on July 26, 2008, 08:51:25 pm
Finally got my finger out of my arse today

Had a few little jobs to do before I think about booking in for an MOT, simple things like change front indicators, remove under bonnet heat retainer, get rear fog light working etc etc.

The batter was as flat as a fart so I used a spare battery to jump start and had to give the starter motor a crack (quite literally haha) to move it infront of the garage. Put the battery charger on and set about my work. Charger stopped working after 5 minutes. Apparently pulling 6 amps according to the guage and it is only a 4 amp charger :|
Anyway, leave it to cool down then start charging again, parked car too close to be able to close the garage door so once again went to start it...nothing...gave the starter motor a good old crack and still nothing so I thought bugger it, it won't take me half an hour to change the starter motor for the spare I have sat in my garage. I was right 8)  After removing the battery to make access easier I had it changed in about 10 mins, popped straight out too :D

Shame about this though,

I knew it needed looking at but didn't realise it was so bad

Oh yeah, and the old starter motor

I looked at the turbo not long after I bought it and the fins looked a little suspect then, but obviously they seem to have somehow gotten MUCH worse :o :o :o

Fortunately I have what I believe to be a 'good' turbo in my garage ready to go on 8) 8) 8)
And the Starter Motor has been shafted ever since I bought the bloody thing (only taken me 2 years to change it :-[) so that aint a biggy, had one in the garage from the last wrecker I had ;D ;D ;D, just hope it bloody works :D ;D

Hopefully I won't have to next time ;D

Anyway, I've progressed a little.
Got planty stripped off, another couple of hours (at my steady pace) should see the turbo off 8)
Some of it wasn't too hard :D there were only 2 nuts holding the cat to the turbo, and one of those was far from tight ;D
