Title: Road Legal ST185 For Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Dee on June 10, 2008, 12:41:45 pm: Well me and Jools were talking this morning about me swapping my astra for a 202 when he decided he'd give my insurance company a ring and see how much more it would be for me to insure the ST185 and low and behold its only £120 more for the year :o So it looks like rather than doing a swap I'm just going to sell the Astra and use the 4.

I cant wait! She's been sat for about a year now on the drive as she failed her MOT on a bearing and rear brake calipers ( I think ) so we're going to get them sorted ASAP (sometime in between getting the Faff sorted :o ) and she's going to be mine to use. I've already got him charging her battery so I can move her to the middle of the yard so I can give her a good wash and a polish as she's very bleached from just being sat there. She really could do with a re-spray but ouch thats far to expensive so for now I'll give her some love and see if we can get her back close to her former glory.

I'll feel like part of the 4 family now :D Another nutter to the list ay ;D

Lol I'm sure its not huge news for everyone on here but I'm bouncing around the room as since I met Jools all I've been hooked on is the 4's and now if we can get her sorted quick enough I might have one all of my own to drive!

Yeh so far I've T-cut her and polished her, and after a year of not being touched believe me I'm paying :D But I'm sure thats not what you had in mind ay Jools, one arm still doesnt stop you being bad does it ;)

Post by: Dee on June 11, 2008, 09:45:14 am: Well she's just about done with the T-cut and polish and I've sorted some discs for Jools to fit (with my help of course, 3 arms better than 1 :D)

I've also just bought her new decals as the ones Jools put on her have started to peel due to being sat for so long. I wont take them off till I have the new ones though as I dont know what the paintwork is like underneath. I got a HKS sunstrip which I thought would look good 8)

Jools took some pictures of me cleaning her yesterday so I'm sure there'll be some sort of post on here and some sarky comment :D I'll put up some pics of her when I'm happy she looks good ;)

All we have left to do is change the brake discs on the rear and we can put her in for her MOT. There are a few little jobs that I want to do while we are waiting for the discs to arrive (please god let them come before the weekend) like clean up the alloys, give the inside a good go over and make her smell nice, clean the windows and I want to put new number plates on her as the old ones are a little tatty as you'll see from the pics. She ideally needs a new paint job but somehow unless someone on here is feeling very generous thats not going to happen anytime in the near future :D

I spent all day on her yesterday t-cutting her, today I finished the t-cut, then rewashed her as the dust from the factory behind us had just covered her, then we went out to get some other polish as I just dont get on with the Mer polish that Jools has, so we went and got some of that new ICE with sponge and cloth for 11.99 and all I can say is Oh MY God :o Its absolutly brilliant! It took me 5 mintues to cover the car in it, then another 5 to rub it back off and as you will see by the pictures its done an amazing job on a 20 year old car :D Its the easiest polish I've ever used and to do a whole car I litrally used about 2mls out of the whole bottle. Seriously impressed.

So here's to new brake discs arriving soon and the crate being back on the road before the next bubble (must look to see when that is :D)

There are a few things we are going to do, I want to paint the underside to give her a little extra protection, and paint the calipers in red to match the car, got a new decal just need to get it sent (waiting on vendor grrrrr), just bought a new cd unit with cd multi changer for a song on fleebay so Jools will fit that when it arrives, and got some mats on watch to fit her. I'd love to get her resprayed but dont have that kind of money, but going to give her loads of love and polish and see how she goes. She was really bleached when I started yesterday, proper pink in places, and after a good clean etc she's come up great, but there are still a few areas that are patchy in colour but I think with a few coats of colour restorer she might pick up loads and be back to somewhere near her former glory.

I have to say, when I started out on this project yesterday I didnt think I'd enjoy it as much as I am, I think I might be turning into a car nut :D

We took her to his mates garage and they said they'd test the emisions and if they failed they wouldnt go on. Jools knew she wouldnt as she was sounding very poorly sick, and he was right she was WAAAAAAAAAY off.

We've brought her back home and he's out there now trying to work some magic, testing leads, changing spark plugs and making sure every single pipe/hose is on firmly. I just hope this works as I know after the nightmare with the Faff he'll be well disheartened and I fear he'll just give up the lot.

Fingers crossed for us everyone that the Crate decides she's happy again and starts to purrrr

I'm not sure what else Jools can do, he knows much more than I do about cars obviously, but he's been out there for hours trying to sort her and she just wont do as her told for him. Stubborn mare >:( He says she's running a bit rich and not burning all her fuel hence the misfiring and sometimes the odd backfire when changing gear but I have no clue what he can do to sort it. Any ideas I'm sure will be more than welcome :)

Seems sometime between be bringing the car back last time and posting on here Jools did something and it seems (please dont let me jinx it by saying this) that he's fixed her! She's certainly ticking over fine, and I took her up the road and back (far and safely as I could with no tax or MOT) and she only missed a tiny bit just once in 3rd gear when I gave her a bit of toe but other than that she's not running rich anymore and she actually sounds like the Crate we all know and love and not a VW Beetle anymore YAY :D

(HC emissions yesterday - 3280 and climbing, today 120 max - rather better!) :o

It was a very nerve racking moment for me and I was pacing the garage, Jools laughing at me and Katie in tow ???

After a tense 40 minutes or so Tim the man that does the job went into his little office and produced a nice green piece of paper ;D I was so happy!!!! All my hard work wont be going to waste, and all Jools' one armed hard work has paid off to :D

Poor Jools doing his best for me to get the Crate sorted.

He's going to send off for new ones but that takes weeks so until then I'm going to have to keep driving round in the shed and just enjoy keeping her clean and sparkling >:( :-\ :'(

Will have to go to local DVLA office with plenty of ID and try to do it in my name and transfer it to Dee later.

Must have forgotten this bit, as i must have renewed once my reminder came through.
I remembered taxing mine from when it was sorn, and I couldnt find my log book. I rang up the DVLA to confirm it was definitely in my name, then just went ahead online to get my tax disc. I still havent got my logbook, so as you say, it must have only worked because my reminder came through.

Post by: Jools on June 16, 2008, 01:12:47 pm: We are just setting off to our local DVLA office, where we can tax it immediatley, but only by adding it onto my insurance, paying for a new V5 and then transfer it when the new log book arrives. Bit of a mess around and some costs incurred, but should be sorted today!! ;) :)
