Hope i've posted this in the right place, if not could a mod move it?
I was just wondering whether it would be worth breaking my '92 GT4 Sainz rathetr than take a bad price for it.
I know you can get £200 for the bumper, £200 for the bonnet (mine needs a bit of filler and painted), £400 (?) for engine and box, £100 for the standard wheels....
I really couldn't be arsed breaking it, and i don't really know what else would be sought after from this car, so your input would be welcome.
Cheers,
Craig
-
Forgive my ignorance, but what's wrong with it that makes you want to break it?
-
Not much, needs a sill or a plate welded on it, and the bonnet was vandalised so needs a bit of filler and painted
i've no real interest in doing the work and i can no longer drive a manual car after an accident in my impreza a few years back
-
provide pics so we can get a look
-
i might be interested if you just want shot of it - but i would really need to get an MOT to get it back here
-
unless i can hire or borrow a car trailer.. i wonder how much it would cost to get it back here like that - how much is a crossing Paul?
-
pics are on the ad on pistonheads, they don't show the damage to the bonnet though, or the rust on the sills.
as for getting an MOT to get it across the water, good luck with that one, you obviously haven't heard what NI MOTs are like!
prices for the boat aren't too bad, but we are in or coming into high season now, plus i think you need to double the price for the trailer, so maybe not economically viable. if you have trade plates then it would be far far cheaper, fly over and drive back :D
-
sounds like a no go then - oh well - i'll keep my eye out for another CS - after all there are plenty around ;-)
-
potential buyer coming this afternoon so car may be gone soon :-[
-
still here, open to offers
-
why did the buyer turn it down in the end mate?
-
never gave a reason as such, just never made a cash offer, said he'd fone me and let me know if he wants it.. ???
-
i'm coming over next week on the belfast to liverpool ferry to lift my new faff, return is 190quid without a cabin, but a nice wee member on here is getting me it now for 92quid with a cabin cause i sent him a load of parts for cheap, his girlfriend works with the ferry company........... nice saving of a 100quid, capman where are you at again
-
facing bringing over a CS with you?
-
capman where are you at again
I'm up in Bangor here mate :D
-
ah right lad i'm the other end of the country, and robbie can't lad i'm bringing mines over as wiggy is taking mines in as part exchange plus som eof my hard earned cash for the orange faff, you really don't know how quick i want him back from holidays and me on that boat to get it
-
Cut out and weld the sill, £100? Fix up and spray sill and bonnet - £200? So for £300 you have a good condition one to flog on whole? They still seem to be commanding mid 2K in good condition?
-
yeah but i have no real interest in doing it or spending the money on it. :'(
-
Unfortunately you wont get much for a car that requires structural as well as aesthetic repairs, unless sold to a club member who will know the true value and be able to do the work, and even club members of that sort are few and far between. I'd just think of the work as an investment. Breaking it would be easy enough, and you'll prbably get plenty for it (though your bonnet wont be worth £200 with damage) but you'll have to get the majority of parts across the water and packing that many bits will be a nightmare, surely more so than fixing for sale?
-
lad i'd be fixing it, if thats the only problems with it, put up pics of the car
-
e mail sent ;) Also whats the crack about bringing over without mot or will it be ok if trailered.

you mean pics of the sill/damage? theres pics if the car up on the pistonheads ad?

replied.
MOT was up in Oct 2007, its on a SORN at the minute, no problem being trailered but it nearly doubles the cost of the boat :(
-
get a set of trade plates and drive away to your hearts content, thats what i'm doing next week with the faff asits MOT has expired
-
yeah you could also do that, never even thought to mention it :D
-
took a few pics of the bonnet and sill tonight if anyone wants a look ::)
-
throw them up lad

You still need insurance, and to have insurance operating under the conditions of trade plates (no tax/MOT) you need trade insurance (££££). To get trade plates you need to provide proof that you are trading in cars and need a property inspection IIRC.

Pics only taken with my phone but best i can do at the minute

that rot on the sill needs both sections, as the sill comes in 2 parts, so if getting genuine parts its going to be over 200quids worth, and it looks like the car just needs a full respray, the bonnet can be fixed though if you wanted to
-
what do you mean it comes in two sections? :-[
Bonnet isn't too bad, a skim of filler and a respray would have it dead on. I agree though, a respray would be the best option, then again black is black, could get away with just doing the needed panels.
-
i replaced the sills on my sainz before the respray last year, and they come in 2 sections and one slides over the other under the plastic side skirt, their not cheap but i'd rather use genuine parts than make up a sill cover from fabricated metal
-
Ah ok i think i get you, that plate that is welded is sort of half under the sill cover so thats probably covering the join. Have had loads of enquiries about the car but no-one turned up with proper cash as yet. If i get anymore offers of less than a grand then i might just pull the sale as i really can't be arsed dealing with people wasting my time >:(
-
couldn't find a pic there last night to show you about the 2 piecs in question but i'm sure someone on here might have one
-
were yours as bad as mine when you replaced them?
-
no, no where near as bad, mines were just blistering and i replaced them before it travelled, only way to see how bad it is is to cut it out, i have a guy in Derry who's super at that kinda of work, he's actually doing my womans puma as we speak........ putting wider arches on it at the rear, trying to gt it ready for the ford fair next sat in Portrush
-
yeah cutting it out is definitely the proper option. if the car doesn't sell soon i'm just gonna hang onto it and do the work. i don't want this to drag on for weeks/months with hanging about waiting on people coming to view the car.
my phone has been going mental today from 11am this morning, people foning from all over Ireland looking to come up.
couple of boys were up looking at it tonight... turns out one of them owned my old white Sainz that was an insurance write-off, and i seen it in the trader about a year ago for £5k ;D
-
Been out enjoying the weather today and going over the car with Megaiurs 3 stage polish stuff and looking at the car now i think i'm mad selling it at this price, seriously thinking about holding onto it. :o
-
you'll enjoy driving it more when you do the work yourself, and you have a pm
-
back at ya
yeah i know what you mean about enjoying it more, i was like that putting my 205Mi16 together, and if you know anything about Peugeot/French reliability/electrics... you'll know that a lot of blood sweat and tears went into that car!
Just when its something that is beyond my own personal capabilities it kind of gets put on the backburner then i get sick of looking at it and throw the head up :D
-
yeah understand fully about french crap sold my d turbo and was i glad to see the back of it, i done 250 miles in it from november mainly when the sainz was away getting work done, it was that bad i drove the womans puma day in day out if the celica wasn't about
-
don't break the car....it will be worth a pittance in spares.
but as a whole it could be worth a lot more as a clean stock example. keep it spend the money and then sell...
-
well for the money i'm asking (or what i'm willing to accept) i'm confident i could break it for more. i used to break a lot of cars years ago and still have a load of parts lying here as i rarely throw anything out :-X
anyhow, i've pulled any for sale posts i had on various forums, leaving only the pistonheads ad.
theres a guy coming tomorrow night who has been wanting to view the car for the past week but i've been putting him off each time. can't remember if i told him the lowest i'd take as theres been so many people calling/texting/emailing i've lost track. if he isn't prepared to pay it then i'll think about get cracking on getting her sorted :D
-
let us know how you get on and don't sell it too cheap
-
I put the guy off (again) about viewing the car tonight, as i was unable to get the thermostat refitted (lent my vice grips to someone last week and need them to release the clamp on the hose going to the inlet). He is adamant that he still want to buy the car though, but don't want anyone accusing me of selling them a boiler by not refitting the thermostat.
Was going through the history today, theres a FTSH upto 108k miles then independent garages upto 130k. The timing belt has been twice from what i can see from the history and invoices. Theres 139k on the car now.
There seems to have been some sort of 100k Toyota extended warranty on the car as theres items in the folder to suggest this, then about £5000 worth of invoices from when that expired. So it seems to have been well looked after, to be honest i never looked at the history very closely before. :o
Also found a certificate thing in the history from 1997 showing an agreed insurance value of £10,000. Not relevant now obviously but thought it was quite interesting. :D :D :D
-
i was recently offered an agreed valuation of £5k for my RC...however the premium was double.
out of interest, do you also have the original signed Carlos Sainz certificate?
If so, then i sincerely believe your car is worth restoring. i think that well maintained corrosion free stock authenticated examples with history will only increase in value....
good luck matey.
-
No i never got the certificate! :'(
This is my 2nd Sainz and neither of them have had the certs :-\
I mean, why are they not passed on? Its not as though they are any use to anyone but the current owner of the car for gods sake >:( >:(
PS - Can i have a photocopy of yours :D
-
i never got one either. but i would love to have a photochopped one for mine :P
-
The guy that was selling the one in the for sale section of this forum is who i got mine off and have known him a few years. The one he was selling had a certificate, i really should have asked him for a copy. But it never even crossed my mind until you posted that photo of one :-\
