Sorry if this has been brought up before but. Ive heard that theres going to be a road tax hike in the next few years on cars in the 1.6+ bracket over 10 years old and obviously most of the GT4s will fall into this.
Does anyone know what the tax is likely to be hiked up to?
cheers

possibly £300-£400 by 2010 >:(
couldn't find any definitive info but this gives a breif description.

i thought it was only being backdated to cars registered after 2001.
http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=17987
the Treasury has now apparently admitted that it failed to make clear that owners of larger cars bought since March 2001 will be hit.
according to the proposals, all GT-Fours will be taxed on engine size, and not engine emissions.
hence a 2 litre 3sge Celica GT and a 2 litre 3sgte Celica GT-Four will be the same cost ;)

It is not the tax we need to worry about but the price of petrol may go up to £5/Lt in a couple of years.......
-
just had my tax renewal... £185 for 12 months..get in.!!

I think i might have to put up organs (although my liver might not be much use after last night ;D lol) in the for sale section to keep the car if they do go to 400 quid.

No chance for at least a year!
My kidneys, my liver, my lungs and my heart have been rejected!
Why is that?
I dunno:)

They are already hiking the VED by £5 a year, but as mentioned a) any new tax schemes are not going to be backwardly applicable and b) its the price of fuel thats going to upset.
Worrying about VED reaching £300 by 2010 is pretty silly when compared with the fact that in the last year or so fuel has gone from 99p a litre to £1.20 a litre and shows no sign of slowing. On an average 10K miles at gt-four mpg (22ish) thats fuel costs going from £2040 to £2480. This is the sole reason I can no longer run my toy :(
