Taken from Max Power
Toyota has "leaked" details of its most exciting concept yet- the Celica gt4 revivial. Scheduled for production in 2010, Toyota say the concept will be four metres long 1.7 wide and weigh just under 1000kg (wow i'm surprised). But more importantly, it going to be MID ENGINED, turbocharged and 4WD.
Since purchasing an 8.4% stake in Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru Motor Co.), Toyota has been eager to use the Impreza'a engine and transmission and has targeted the next generation Celica platform as the best option. Two models are set for production the Celica GT and the GT4. The cheaper GT will have a front mounted, naturally aspirated 200bhp Subaru engine driving the REAR wheels, which calls to mind the classic AE86. However the, GT4 will get the impreza STI 300bhp 2.5litre turbocharged engine and 4WD transmission, but the best bit is the engine will be mid mounted.
Body styles will inclue a 5 door saloon and 3 door hatch, and if all goes to plan the next generation Celica should hit the road 2010. Manufacture will take place at Subaru's Gunma factory, Japan.
Prices look to pitch the base model GT at just under £15000, however, it is unlikely either model will be officially available in the UK. But let that not deter us as it relayively simple to bring one over as a personal import.

can't wait for a look at this one :D :D :D Even though I`ll probably never be able to afford one :'( :'( Even the GT sound good though, 200 bhp rear driver sounds like a blast.

max power have a virtual look of what they think its going to look like and its a gen7 with Audi R8 side vents lol, quite looking forward to the real pics from Toyota
-
Isn't this old news?
-
its old news yes, but max power have just heard about it!!
still GOOD news though!
-
yeah i put up the original post a while back put there was some details that weren't in that original post that Max Power have came up with now
-
What? Like chocolate pistons?
I must be the only fella about that is a bit aprehensive about resurecting the GT4 name for a new car.IMHO the original car was rally bred, its children were rally bred and its children's children were rally bred, if a little portly and slightly unsteady on their feet. (couldn't resist) While this new one will undoubtedly have two exhaust tips (oh the shame) and be geared toward the burberry baseball cap wearing types.
-
You'd think Toyota would have addressed the piston issue, amongst others
-
yeah i thought that too, and i do agree with your barry but maybe toyota may introduce itself back into the WRC again fingers crossed........... i hope they use lindt pistons rather than the imprezas cadburys
-
I can't see them returning in the forseeable future not until they are laughed out of Foolumla 1 at any rate. And besides with current WRC regs pushing manufacturers towards S2000+ there would be no real need for the GT4 to enable Toyota to go rallying again, I'd look more to the Auris. :(
-
Not entirely sure how they are going to use the transmission from it, since mid-mounting needs totally different diff and transfer assemblies to a front-mounted 4WD setup? I suspect it may share some common features and the engine, but that'll be about it.

I think it looks nice, albeit i little too much like the Nissan 350z
-
mmmmm now i could be seen in that
-
Have to agree, it does look nice 8)

From what I've been hearing it will start out N/A only and if it does well there's a possibility of a turbocharged 4WD model after a while, don't know why I'm interested in this cos I'll probably be a pensioner before I can afford one.
