Gutted mate. I got caught last year doing 54 in a 30 in my mr2 and got 3 points on my license. When i phoned my insurance company to tell them they didn't put it on the policy till it time for renewal didn't make a huge difference in the price maybe £50ish.

They do ask for the code (SP70), and the amount you were fined but dont normally load your premium for one offence unless there was a ban involved. Deffo best to tell em though

over here in NI where insurance usually screws you, this is one of the few things that we're on a par with you guys over there, usually premiums aren't effected and if they are its a pittance but the next time your caught expect to be screwed, they don't take to repeat offenders too well

unlucky jat!  sure it wasn't the wife driving though!!??!!!??!!  :)

anyway as said- repeat offenders are hammered, but your first should not really make a dent.

however - use the money you "thought you would have to spend" to invest in a snooper!

if you have only got 3 points on the licence, it don't really matter too much, as insurance compaines see 3 points as nothing to worry about. 6+ then it's a case of "drop em and be prepared". in your circumstance, it sounds like it won't be much as it will probably classed as an SP30, if it's on the non motorway part. SP70 IIRC is excessive speed on a motorway. I know this as I got pulled in the company car (who'd thought a 1600 Diesel could go that fast :lol:)

Hope this is any comfort

mobile sites = radar guns

but some are lasers now... not sure you can detect them??

To add a twist, I have actually played around with some of the online quotes and adding 3 points DROPPED theprice on one of them! lol!  ::)

Sp50 = speeding on a motorway

You can get detectors that detect lasers, but from what I gather they are hardly worth it, in the time that it takes you to react the laser has already determined your speed...plus more likely to cause an accident when you suddenly throw the anchors out.

Valentine 1 for me, not cheep but kept me clean for years!!!
V1 is a "live" detector, ie it sees cameras etc that are switched on, so no need to be updating databases etc.
