Title: Engine weight
Post by: Coyoteboy on September 10, 2007, 09:39:52 pm
Been trying to find out if anyone knows the actual weight of a full engine, ready to run (minus AC pump/power steering pump). The thing I'm struggling with is do I do a V8 (mmmmm burble) kit car in a locost style chassis or do i design and build my own mid-rear engined setup based around an MR2 block and box. I've been informed that the 3S-GE is around 133Kg without box etc and the Rover V8 is only 144. Now I know i could rip 300hp from an MR2 engine no probs but the V8 does look nice protruding from a chassis and im not sure the kick of a turbo is a good idea in something that weighs half a ton. My last option is to retire the 185 (or buy a crash write-off) and use the whole running gear for a custom 4wd kit. Whats the thinking....?
