You'd need to speak to the insurance company re the graphics?

Have you got a RAL number for the superwhite?

Don't currently have insurance, but might by the end of the weekend.

Only thing I know about the superwhite is it's 040 (rather than 0400!) from my VIN plate, and that no-one seems to be able to duplicate it, either as standard 040 or by me taking a panel in for matching.

Attached is the wing after I rebuilt it and resprayed it (round the arch). As you can see, it's a million miles off.

Is it not the rest of the car thats out? The original paint is over a decade old now and may require some serious restoration to get it close to its original shade (assuming she hasnt been resprayed at some point)

Well I'd thought that too but bearing in mind that during the process of prepping the wings I've flatted the original paint back to a matte finish and then polished it back with rubbing compound afterwards, so I'd have thought it'd be as close to original as possible, having removed the top layers. To be fair it is nearer 2 decades old lol. IT comes up lovely, bright and shiny when I do it, so it's not like the other has faded.

Oh, a replacement fuel flap matches mine too, from another superwhite four.

Doesn't that fall into the same ageing category though ?

Yep, but both aged paints should return to normal when flatted back with 2000 grit sandpaper and rubbing compound?

It will show less if you put a thin coat over the whole wing so the colour chamge is on joins.

I can have a look at my mixing kit and see if there's specs for the superwhite in the database. I did a set of wheels in our amethyst White for a White 205 and the bodywork looked creamy once the wheels were on, so the guy had to get busy with his detailing kit, lol.

Just been informed by an MR2 chappy that there's about half a dozen 040 superwhites from factory. No wonder I'm stuggling. Wonder if Toyota will tell me the mix required?

ERm....................... should only be 2
040 for imports and another colour code for UK cars.

I have just had my spats done. Car now looks cream against them. 2 minutes with the machine polisher and the surrounding area matched.

Depends on how far back you went with the flatting and the standard of return on the polish I suppose. You can still have some dirt engrained into the paintwork if you have just taken a touch off. Bear in mind the GT-fours are quietebad for orange peel, so what you flatted back could maybe have just flatted the peel bobbles. You could still have a bit of muck ingrained in the lower levels of paint. A good machine polish "should" rectify this.

some piccies of the offending areas and the areas you have worked on would help, and then i could maybe give some pointers?

HTH

Cheers

Mike

Well I managed to get some paint from my local auto paints place. I sat with him for about 20 minutes going through the various sample tab things he had and eventually decided on one that was a Toyota superwhite, it VERY closely matches the bit I took right back with 2000 grit to new-looking (initially nearly matched a bit I've oversprayed!) - its code is "09-02551". There was "09-02552" but it looked a bit more grey, like the one I already tried, and the other one was very yellowy and abit darker again.

Mine's a UK 185 FWIW.

Unfortunately the only paint I could get in that form was 2 pack, so that's going to be a joy to tool up for. Outdoor spraying is the order of the day methinks.

Attached is dodgy arch colour against original white flatted back then t-cut'd.

Was this by hand? You will be there for hours just to get that wing back to an "ok" Standard.  :-[

Think you need to invest in a rotary polisher..........................or get me top come and do it lol!!

good luck with it buddy, hope it works out

Cheers

Mike
