not got mine mapped yet.
as I understand it the ecu can pick up knock from vibration as well as geuine knock
knock in small amounts is not worrying, knock above 60 is high and knock at high revs / boost is concerning

have you had yours mapped?

Knock levels are affected by inlet temps, ie 2 identical pulls at different inlet temps say one at 25 degrees and another heat soaked run at say 60 degrees will give different knock levels, this should be taken into consideration as one may give sub 20 knock and the other 50.  Keep an eye on your inlet temps before mashing the throttle, your engine will thank you in the long run :)

hi, thanks 4 replyin ,  :D, ive had it mapped twice now and my engine warning light flashes up quite alot on the dash when my knock goes above about 33 on the fc commander . wen u boot it it wont flash much or at all or even in high revs, but if u r going slow and then put your foot down as the turbo winds up it will go up to the 50s sometimes higher and this is very annoying wen u just want to over take in 5th gear with out dropping it down. The inlet temp does seem to be another big factoer as if it is cold air or foggy the knock increses . does this sound normal or should i have it checked out do u think . much appriciated  :) :) :) :)

Ive seen my light flash once, the knock level reached 63, Id been stuck in a traffic jam for ages on a hot day and pulled off onto a very steep hill giving it full beans :o Full load rather than high rpms or full boost affect my knock levels most - like you say with overtaking whilst in 5th.  Seams odd that your light shows at 33 as this is an acceptable amount of knock, who mapped your PFC?  As for cold air and foggy, I live up north so its like that all the time and the 4 loves it ;)

you shouldnt be getting knock in the cold / fog
the knock sensor could be picking up vibration from some where

oh yes no doubt about it ,its faster in cold conditions but the knock is there more, it was mapped and fitted by zen performance in northants costing me 940 quid. i think he sed wen he fitted it he can change when the light flashes , u no at what level and mine must be set at about 30 ish cus its always flashing :-[.  i rang him the other day and thats what he sed it could be nusence knock from something else. ill try and keep it below 60 then  ::) thanks for ur help.

u sometimes get a high knock spike when changing gear.
the higher the revs, the more likely u r to get a false knock spike.
u can set the knock value warning (engine light) to whatever u like.
