my insurance was £2500 when i was 17 on a 1.5 diesel pug 106, and that was for 3rd party only cover....... Northern Irelands insurance is a joke, still is today in comparison to across the water.

last year when i was 18, third party (the fours market value was not enough to warrant full cover) for my four was $350 NZ (thats about 135 quid) per year and I didn't even have a full license! $1200 excess and cover for up to $1M. I think there will come a law in NZ to make insurance compulsory (I think it should be anyway) and that will push the price up as people wont have a choice, but even it it does go up It still won't be much compared to other places

Am I the only one who got into Celicas for their rally heritage?

Bazza - possibly, yes! The Four (Especially the CS) epitomises how I like cars to look (not how I like others to see me, as some people assume) and further investigation found it to be more interesting than just any old attractive car. I was 10 when it was rallying, I had no real following of WRC until later in life. TBH though stuff like scoobies have rally heritage too (to some degree), as do Lancias - but I'd not buy one of either of those! :)

I'm kind of the same as coyote, I would say that although I was aware they had rally heritage, I liked the look of the GT-Four, the prices involved and the power figures etc and that's why I bought one. Only after I got one did I became more interested in the rally heritage of the breed.

I became a four fan basically because all of my family are Toyota drivers so i had to follow suit, but i remember going to the Donegal Rally and seeing Austin McHale drivng a TTE ST185CS, and since then i had to have one. We were in the service park in Carndonagh when i got up close to the car and met Austin, that definately made my mind up. Since then I've always wanted and now have a four and i can't see myself not ever having one.

Harking back to the insurance - I think it makes sense to whack up the insurance on high-group cars such as ours, for anyone with little experience. Having come from a 44hp FWD straight to a 200hp 4wd (with some playing with other high power cars in between) I can see how someone who was a little less aware of his mortality could end up squished/squishing others. The thing is they may the insurance of relatively gutless cars high too for learners.

Not sure I was going anywhere with that. never mind!

If it makes you feel any better, I have been into celicas since i was 16, i started out with a 1977 TA23 2.0gt, which, as im sure you know had a decent rally career, i have since had RA28's, TA40's. RA40's, ST162's and of course ST185's, all of which have rally heritage.  Im a WRC fan through and through but i have no where near your level of knowledge im afraid.

Heres what its all about.
Watch at 1.03(ish), fastest roll in WRC history. (I'd like to see a 185 or 205 do that)

One hell of a roll.

My 185 might end up doing something similar if it doesnt start to behave.
