Road Tax
« on: March 17, 2008, 08:10:50 pm »
I have just renewed my road tax. The notification letter came through with £180 but thanks to the buget this increased to £185. This does not seem to fit with any of the published price bands. I just wondered if anyone else had just paid and if it was the same amount?

Check the government website for latest figures. And its VED, not road tax - none of it goes towards creating or maintaining your roads :)

Sorry, just not quite sure what you'd like as an answer?

Google VED. Hit the first link. Hit the first link on that page - voila, your current published VED levels (you are TC11 catagory, over 1.6 - therefore £185 per 12 months) :
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524

You pay whatever the current tax is, not whatever the paperwork you last saw was?

Sorry. I posted this here because I thought in might start a discussion about VED (Road tax to old people like me). I suppose that the answer to my question is yes and I'll leave it at that.

Well, I think Coyote's post got the discussion going, however, it does seem fairly conclusive so maybe no need for further debate, unless you know of a road that has had a few quid spent on it ;)

Again, sorry - just didnt see where a discussion could go from that point, other than the usual bitching about the cost of it, which is getting pretty expensive, but I've resigned myself to the fact that all politicians are going to screw us over so theres little point complaining and stressing myself about it :)

Still, we have to be glad that we arent being hit by some super-tax for dramatically poor MPG figures! Last time I used mine I got ~17mpg, thats about equal to a nice ~79 corvette with its 5.7l V8 throwing fuel from the exhaust in glorious fluidic gurgles.

I've found fillthathole.co.uk. Handy google maps interface, gets results in a week in most cases- I've reported 6 and 4 have been filled. Ace.

Wish you lot would get together and FORCE the authorities to spend even 10% of what the gain in Tax on vehicle use, .... then I could get on with my job instead of a pothole filled here, a pothole filled there and 99% of the time answering calls from frustrated motorists and pedestrians too!

Now.... a 1970 Triumph 13/60 convertible, a Hyindai Amica and a Honda CR-Z Hybrid :)

Unfortunately the authorities seem to think cure is better than prevention :) Hopefully by pointing out every fecking hole and stopping them "getting away with it" all the time, they might re-align their priorities.
