Temped to make a real 205
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:43:17 am »
My first car was a Peugeot 205. Not a GTi but I fell in love with the body shape somehow (dont ask!). I always wanted a GTi but couldnt afford the insurance on one at the time. Well my 185 mechanicals are improving all the time but my bodywork is going south. It looks like its a losing battle to stop the rust and I'm tempted to stop fighting. Wait for it to become real bad then scrap the shell. Take the running gear and drop it into a 205 GTi shell. Major job, obviously, but I'd like to see what 300hp 4x4 is in a sub-1000kg car. Body parts are cheap as chips and boy would it be a sleeper if I kept the body standard looking from the outside :)

now that would be worth watching.. i've not heard of anyone dropping the Gt4 running gear, transmission and engine into another make (fensports not included) Good luck mate - i've always liked the 205 GTI as my mate had one, and i just about went past it at 145 on my old bike...

PHEW!!!!

Friend of mine had a slightly modified 1.6 - roundabouts were insane in that and it was only really knocking on ~150ish bhp FWD. Makes me giddy to think about it :D

Im into my 205's, had one for my first car sold it and bought it back 2 years later lol.
It was a mildly tuned 1.4 xs with Gti suspension and brakes, embarassed a lot of quicker cars with that on track  8)

Im actually building a stage rally 205 at the moment but im waiting for it to be sprayed by a mate so thats holding it up.

Regarding putting a 4wd turbo into one, it can definitely be done.
I remember seeing a wide arch 205 at the French car show a couple of years ago with a cossie engine and running gear in.  I've got a pic at home, think it was in CCC a long time ago.
I've got a mag at home (PPC i think) with a 106 with cossie engine and running gear, built by DP motorsport i think.  A1 rallysport do cossie conversions on Fiestas too I seem to remember, they seemed to be good value to me at about £20k on the road.

I dont know if you know but someone on the OC who is building an RS200 kit car based on a 185. There's someone near me with one too but with an impreza engine in.  I saw it at the kit car show last year and the guy was telling me that it cost about £20k to build.

I suppose if you have the money, know how and facilities anything is possible.

Sounds like a good idea anyway, it'd be good seeing a standard looking 205 with a 2L turbo and 4wd!

No money (at the mo) but knowhow and materials I do have :) By then I'll hopefully have all 3 :)

I've seen the (dark blue?) cossie 4x4 - massive widened track IIRC?

Their's an old school mini that goes to the pod quite a bit, it has a 3sgte with rwd. Anything can be done with enough time and money.
