Hi folks looking to buy a 185 and the one I have seen will need trailered home. But I can get a towing a frame easily.  Is it ok to do this?  Was told it could damage the diff being towed? Be towing from leeds to ayrshire Scotland

Towing is ok as long as all 4 wheels are on the ground and turning.

DO NOT use the rigs which lift 1 pair of wheels off the ground and leave them stopped or you will damage the centre diff - and that's if the car doesn't break free from the rig.

On 185's there is a small lever underneath allowing you to disengage the centre viscous coupling or even switch to 2WD. Not sure how this gets on driving the gear oil pump though and whether the gearbox will die due to lack of lubrication.

And when towing with all 4 wheels on the floor you have to stick <30mph. It's all in the BGB!

what you using for towing.? Whether or not you can legally tow a caravan or trailer on UK roads will depend on the type of driving licence you hold.
