Anyone get classic insurance on their Four? I've just had a scary quote from my usual discounted place which is 100 quid more than it was 3 years ago when I was living at a rougher postcode, not a home owner, and 3 years younger with 3 years fewer NCB. Mildly cheesed off.

ive just renewed mine through Performance Direct. First year ive tried a classic car policy as its now my second car. £275 and im 28 with 8yrs ncb. I was amazed how much of a saving i was getting. Renewal through swinton was about £450 and other were looking anywhere between 400 and 600.

I took a multi car policy this year with Admiral and got both my cars insured for about the same as the faff renewal price

I'm with Admiral multicar too. The Faff is on limited mileage, and is not much more than the Focus fully comp.

It must depend how modified, because I declared my (limited) mods.
I was with Sky before, they were pretty good although I did have max. NCD.

I have max NCD, living a the fields with car on drive and primarily drive another car. But Sky seem to be a bit uncompetitive this year.
I do have fairly notable functional mods though I suppose, only really alloys and exhaust visible from the outside but inside it's quite heavily tweaked. The sooner I get a kit car the better, the locost bunch are always moaning when their premium goes above 150, despite being able to do 0-60 in aroudn the same time as a bike!

I also reckon it makes a difference if you have mods aswell?

Yeah, well my mods are:
ECU (Megasquirt)
Exhaust turbo back
Alloys
Dump valve (detatched at the mo)
Air filter
CS Chargecooler
Boost controller
(power = around +50%)
205 Gearbox (not really a mod, not mentioned)
CT20B - noted but not really considered and upgrade.
And re kitcar insurance - yup, both scarier and 1/3 the weight, better braking and cornering so less damage to a 3rd party.

In my opinion your charge cooler, gearbox and turbo aren't worth mentioning when declaring mods, as they're unlikely to know what difference they make... or be able to tell the difference when inspecting 'post impactus'.
I think sometimes they just add £30 for every word you say after they ask "Any modifications?"... Cynical eh?

Yeah, maybe I was too optimistic in assuming that if I declared the lot they'd accept I was telling the truth and not the sort of person trying to get away with claiming alloys only on a 400hp monster lol.
I'm considering going TPFT only instead, if I write her off I'll probably not re-build her anyway (once the shell has gone the soul has gone!) and take her heart for a kit car. That does open me up to a few risks though, uninsured drivers and vandalism I suppose. Depends whether it makes a large difference.
I was genuinely shocked at the increase over the last time where I was using it to commute into city-centre Liverpool, aged 25, parking on public carparks.
I wonder if my home CCTV setup will reduce the costs. Probably not.

I did TPFT for a bit, with the same reservations as you've said. I reckoned that the excess on a FC policy would have put me off claiming on vandalism or minor damage anyway though.

Tis a fair point, excess and loss of NCB on both cars would make it bearly worth claiming unless it was written off I guess. Unless it's trashed I could prob replace the panels required and respray for less than the additional costs. That's kinda what annoys me with insurance anyway, It's not like I'd had it to someone to fix anyway TBH, I'd do the repairs myself.
