It's fine, not sure what you're suggesting is wrong with it (it's covered in wet-n-dry residue, it's only the colour discrepancy that's at fault), it buffs up in a few seconds from that point. Incidentally im not so sure about your orange peel comment, you can read a book in the reflection on my other (non-sprayed!) body parts?

You can in peeled paintowrk as well. You just get a slightly bobbled effect, thats all.
If you are appy with it then thats all that counts - you can judge better than any of us as you have the car in front of you

I think 20 years of polishing have left it fairly damn smooth! (You can't read a book in my orange peeled panels lol).

Well I'm really *BLEEP*ed off with this all. I spent ages trying to get a paint match down at the local auto paint place, we went through all the 040s and compared it to a fresh bit of t-cut'd wing and it looked right. Went to the risk of spraying 2-pack and now it's fecking miles off a match, and whats more my cack-handedness put some pretty nasty runs in the first wing. Got to wait forever now for this lot to cure so I can sand out all the imperfections and then I don't know what - put up with the colour?
Really cheesed off after such a long period prepping and practicing and spending a fortune on paint that doesnt match.

That's unfortunate mate, but the things that are worth doing are seldom easy.
I guess it depends how much the paint cost as to what the next step should be. Buy some more and respray?

I've got enough to go again to be honest but despite using forced air I'm sure I've got irritated lungs from it and it's going to take forever to cut the ridges back as 2pack sets like rock, and then I can't even guarantee it's going to not run next time either. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself!
Still got a rear arch to do too, god help me.

I'm having the same prob mate, although my car just had a respray last year!
The sprayers last year asked code, told them std 040 superwhite, what they did matched perfectly with OEM painted panels that were not resprayed. I have just come to do a bit of repairwork and the rattlecan 040 does not match up

Hi
If you are having that much trouble matching, and you want it to be spot on, then you will need to do a blend onto the door/bonnet and possibly the front bumper.
If you are confident enough could be attempted yourself. However if the paint is a must for you to be spot on, i would suggest maybe have a pro look at it?
I have just had my spats and door painted by my mate. Not blended but pretty much a bang on match when the whole car has been machine polished. A critical eye can tell it is slightly out but hardly noticeable.
Would suggest maybe keying the first 1/4 of your door the side of the bumper and the first part of the bonnet where the dipped beam light turret gurve on the bonnet is and spray to there.
HTH
Cheers

Indeed seems to be that you need to blend all butt joints as none of the official 040's match my paintwork. It's not so hard to blend reasonably but to do it well takes a good bit of practice and knowledge of your paint first, if it's for a show car I suspect I'd go down the professional route. For mine, well I'm going to MOT it in patchy poor paint form, then have a go another day when I'm less cheesed off with it. If it still doesn't match I'm going to sticker it as I can't be bothered anymore.
